COMPUTER AND INTERNET SERVICES

1. A web page was set by our Presidency and put into service. Our

Presidency have been introduced through this web page. If deemed appropriate by

the Higher Committee of Religious Affairs, this page also provides information

on religious matters. Moreover, administrative regulations, selected traditions,

audible recitation of the Holy Qur’an and its translation are available in this

web page; our people, if they wish, may also download the translation (me’al) of

the Qur’an from there.

2. Sermons given at the Kocatepe Mosque of Ankara have been added to our

web page in audio-visual form. By so doing, it is aimed that an enormous amount

of people may benefit from guidance services.

3. The section of “Web Library” was set up, and some important books of

our Presidency were added to this section, and so, they were offered to the

service of our people. Apart from that, “Frequently Asked Questions” section was

also prepared and these questions alongwith their answers were added to this

section.

4. The decisions taken by the Higher Committee of Religious Affairs from

its establishment up until today have been added to our web page in order to

provide easy access and research, to get knowledge and benefit of the works done

in the past, and to compare them with other decisions taken in similar matters.


5. Furthermore, the following information was added to the Diyanet Web

page:

a) Prayer times of specific cities of Turkey and of the world, fasting schedules

of Ramadan month, and the beginning times of Ramadan and Sacrifice festivals

might be calculated by running directly the programmes on the web.

b) Determining the direction of Meccah (Qiblah), and the angles of Qiblah.

c) Starting from the year 1900 until 2008, a total of 108 years, the beginnings

of Ramadan months, the beginnings of Ramadan and Sacrifice festivals, all days

of Islamic holy nights, and the first days of the lunar years.

d) From 1900 to 2008, the equivalents of the Lunar, the Christian and the

Gregorian calendars of 108 years in total.

e) Official and religious holidays between 2003-2008.

f) Time changings in the Turkish and the European style.

g) Regional time differences of the world (while it is 12 o’clock in Turkey...)

h) Time differences of the major cities from the close settlements ( ± )

i) Laws on calendars.

j) The decision of the Cabinet about the practice of forwarding time between

2003-2006.

k) The decisions which have been taken in the meetings about the beginnings of

lunar months.

l) The technical explanations, the map and schema of the Zilhijja month of 2003.

We have adviced our province and district mufti offices to register themselves

to the internet system, and so far 81 province mufti offices, 81 district

offices have been registered for internet. In addition to this 81 province mufti

offices, 725 district mufti offices and 12 Education Centres have computers.

6. Over various periods computer courses have been organized for the

personnel using computers and working in the Presidential and provincial

organization. It is aimed that the whole personnel will have been subjected to

computer courses.

7. The whole information about our personnel working in the central and

rural organizations and the organizations abroad was stored on computer system.

8. Suitable Programming languages have been selected in accordance with

recent technology; by so doing, those programmes, which the central units of the

Presidency and the Mufti Offices need, will work efficiently.

9. With ON-LINE system, the Mufti Offices in provinces and the Training

Centre Directorates were connected with the headquarters building; so, these

units may reach the data stored in a computer system located within the

Presidency building. We are also aiming to connect the Mufti Offices in

districts to the headquarters via on-line system.
