The grave life is the life starting with the death and lasting until resurrection. The grave life has also been named as Barzakh. The Prophet Muhammad has informed that the life of Hereafter starts with the death by saying that: ''The grave is the first stop of the stops of the Hereafter. If someone manages to pass this stop, he passes the other stops more easily. If he fails, to pass the rest will be harder.'' {Tirmîdhî, Zuhd, 5; Ibn Mâja, Zuhd, 32.}
When the person is put into the grave after he dies, angels named as Munkar and Nakîr ask questions by coming to him, such as ‘’Who is your Lord?’’, ‘’Who is your Prophet?’’, ‘’What is your Religion?’’, the believers and doer of good deeds will manage to answer these questions correctly, and the gates of Heaven will be open for them and they will see what is inside. The unbelievers and hypocrites will fail to answer these questions and they will see the Jahannam by opening its gates. The believers will enjoy the benefits of Heaven as happily and free of grievances while the unbelievers and the hypocrites are chastised at the grave in pain and trouble. {Tirmîdhî, Janâiz, 70}There is sorts of information in the Qur’an and the hadith regarding the grave chastisement and its bounty. |
