Article 136 of Our Constitution consists of the following ruling: “The Presidency of Religious Affairs, which takes place in the general administration, is responsible for the execution of the duties specified in the special law in order to provide national unity and solidarity, and remain separate from all
political views and thoughts in accordance with the principle of secularism.” The first article of law 633 which is “About the Presidency of Religious Affairs, its Establishment and Obligations” specifies the duties of the Presidency of Religious Affairs as follows: “to execute the works concerning the beliefs, worship, and ethics of Islam, enlighten the public about their religion, and
administer the sacred worshipping places.” While providing the services that were entrusted to our responsibility by the Constitution and the related law, we, i.e., the Presidency of Religious Affairs, consider the following articles as our basic principles, aims and objectives to
be followed: 1- To be at the same distance from all political views, thoughts and activities
in our country and in the World, 2- To embrace the whole society, to play a reconciliatory and integrative role among the members of the society, accepting their differences as the richness of
our country, 3- To give service in protecting and strengthening the social stability and peace, and the national unity and solidarity, and to warn them against negative
activities of various destructive, harmful and sectarian movements, 4- To guide and enlighten our nation about dangerous, harmful and unethical behaviour and habits which weaken them materially and spiritually, and which
lead to social instability, 5- To adopt an attitude which knows, understands and evaluates the traditions,
expectations and sensitivities of the society to which we give service, 6- To provide religious services decorated and illuminated by knowledge and good conduct, benefiting from today’s technological developments and communicational
facilities and our historical experiences, 7- To transform the knowledge that was produced by the 23 Faculties of Theology in
our country and in the world into service, 8- To have religious officers with high levels of education and culture, who will lead society, who will understand the people they address and find religious solutions to their problems and who will live an exemplary life and
implement good through their deeds and words.
