The Great Hagia Sophia Mosque was re-opened for worship after 86 years with the Friday prayer which was established with community. The longing of believers for the Hagia Sophia and the longing of the Hagia Sophia for believers came to an end
A dua program was held at the Great Hagia Sophia Mosque before the Friday prayer by the Presidency of Religious Affairs for re-opening of the Hagia Sophia for worship.
Takbirs and tilawats of the Holy Qur’an were recited at the program which was started in the morning hours at the Great Hagia Sophia Mosque that was re-opened with a Friday prayer after 86 years and continued until the Friday prayer.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also recited the Holy Qur’an at the program. President Erdoğan recited Surah Fatihah and the first five verses of Surah Baqarah and the President of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş made a dua at the end of the program.
The President of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş used following expressions in the dua made by him, “O the Almighty Allah, today we are experiencing the happiness of the re-opening of our Hagia Sophia Mosque for worship which we have waited with great longing for 86 years. O Allah, may You let this happiness last forever in our hearts and in our homeland. O my Allah, may You never make this divine place of worship sad and never deprive our nation of worshipping here.”
Making dua for the complete Holy Qur’an recitations and the recited surahs, the President of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş included the followings to his dua,
“Out of these recitations, we have presented some to the souls of Akshemseddin and all the soldiers, martyrs, and veterans who participated in the conquest of Istanbul, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Han who conquered Istanbul 567 years ago, turned the Hagia Sophia into Hagia Sophia Mosque, the conqueror of Istanbul being in the first place, o my Allah, may You accept our intention. We have presented some to the souls of those from imams to muezzins, from ulama to all hodjas who have taught lessons here and have served at the Hagia Sophia Mosque from that time to today, o my Allah, may You accept our intention. O the Almighty Allah, we have presented some to the souls of Architect Sinan and all the architects who worked to turn this place to a great mosque, o my Allah, may You reach it to them. O the Almighty Allah of the worlds, we have presented some to the souls of the deceased relatives of the top executives of our country who exerted efforts to conduce to re-opening the Hagia Sophia as mosque again, our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan being in the first place, o my Allah, may You accept our intention.
O my Allah, may You let the Great Hagia Sophia Mosque be open to worship until the Judgment Day. O the Almighty Allah, today we are having the joy of the re-opening of our Hagia Sophia for worship which we have waited for 86 years. O the Almighty Allah, may You let this happiness last forever in our hearts and in our homeland. O my Allah, may You never make this divine place of worship sad and never deprive our nation of worshipping here.
O the Almighty Allah! O my Allah, may You let us work with great belief, devotion, and excitement in order to make the meanings of the Great Hagia Sophia Mosque which are carried in its heart dominate in the world.
O my Allah, may You make us one of your servants to whom You gave blessings and whom You turned into dear servants. O my Allah, may You protect us from being both oppressors and oppressed ones, may You make us some of those who stand by the oppressed persons against the oppressors, who command the benevolence and ban the evil, who are on the path of the truth, and who call people to justice, morals, and mercy.
O the Almighty Allah! O my Allah, may You let our dear nation, which has served to the humanity in the way of our supreme religion Islam, has become a hope to the hopeless people, a shelter for the oppressed people, and a protector for the lonely people for centuries, live forever and may You let its excellence and strength last forever.
O the Almighty Allah! O my Allah, may You save and make our nation, homeland, army, land, and the world of Islam be safe from all kinds of internal and external enemies which are going to damage our peace and brotherhood.
O my Allah, may You have mercy on all our martyrs from the Battle of Badr to the Battle of Manzikert, from the War of Gallipoli to the War of Independence, from the July 15 to today who sacrificed their lives to prevent adhans being silenced, our flag from being taken down, our homeland from being divided, and our chastity from being violated. O my Allah, may You give healthy and auspicious lives to our veterans; may You bestow mercy on the ones who deceased.
O the Almighty Allah! O my Allah, may You help the executives of our country and our security forces who work for the unity and solidarity of our nation, the welfare and peace of our country, and the peace and goodness of humanity, may You keep them away from all kinds of dangers and traps.
O the Almighty Allah! O my Allah, may You help our brothers and sisters who face with oppression and massacre at different parts of world, whose countries are occupies, whose mosques and houses are damages, whose rights are violated, may You give us the strength to help them.
O the Almighty Allah! O my Allah, may You make us an auspicious ummah which works for construction and rehabilitation in the world, commands the well-known things and bans deniers.
O my Allah, may You furnish us with the jewels of the Holy Qur’an, may You honor us with the honor of the Holy Qur’an. O my Allah, may You make our generations one of those which live in the way of the Holy Qur’an. O my Allah, may You the voices reciting the Holy Qur’an echoed forever in our homeland which a part from the heaven."
After the duas, 4 muezzins recited adhan from 4 minarets of the Great Hagia Sophia Mosque. President of Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Mustafa Şentop, Vice President Fuat Oktay, and Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, as well as a great number of Muslims established the first Friday prayer which was established after 86 years together. The First Lady Emine Erdoğan also established her prayer at the part reserved for women.
The areas were full before the time of Friday prayer
Those who wanted to establish the Friday prayer at the Great Hagia Sophia Mosque by coming from other cities of Turkey and from abroad were taken to the Hagia Sophia Square starting from the early hours in the morning through the security units which were places at 11 points. The temperatures of those who entered in were taken and whether they had masks were controlled at the entry points in accordance with the measures taken against the new-type coronavirus (Covid-19).
The citizens who came from other cities by bus were transported from Yenikapı Activity Area, which was reserved to them as parking area, to Çatladıkapı by free of charge IETT buses. Citizens reached from there by walking to the areas in which prayer was going to be established.
The areas designated for prayer were full before the time of Friday prayer. Prayer rugs, disinfectants, and water were distributed to the citizens. The giant screens which were installed on mobile vehicles enabled the citizens who were in the back rows to see the area.
21 thousand police officer were commissioned
21 thousand police officer were commissioned for the re-opening ceremony of the Great Hagia Sophia Mosque for worship and intensive security precautions were taken at that region.
After all the prayer areas near the Great Hagia Sophia Mosque were full, the entry of the newcomers was stopped.
Those who wanted to perform Friday prayer were directed to the Yenikapı Activity Area after bus services to the Hagia Sophia Square were stopped because it was full. The citizens who wanted to see the Hagia Sophia Mosque after the Friday prayer were informed that the bus services would be started again after the prayer.
After the entries were closed, the citizens headed for the near mosques. Those who could not find empty place at mosques established their Friday prayers by laying down the prayer rugs, which they brought from their homes, on the grounds of the places near mosques.
Fatih Sultan Mehmet tomb got crowded due to the visiting citizens.
The opening ceremony was broadcasted live on television channels as well as social media platforms. The program prepared for the re-opening of the Hagia Sophia Mosque was also viewed from the personal social media accounts of the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and from the official Twitter account which was created for the Great Hagia Sophia Mosque.
