Dear brothers, the light of a season that is abundant with mercy, baraqah, and forgiveness falls upon us. We are living the joy of reaching to the blessed months that come with wonders as a moral renovation climate every year. We are going to contemplate Lailat-al-Ragaib tonight, Insha Allah.

In these times which are the baraqah climate of our spiritual world, it is an important opportunity to face ourselves and to make an accounting of our lives. As a matter of fact that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw) pointed out the importance of these exceptional nights by making dua as follows, “O My Allah! May You bless us in the months of Rajab and Shaban and let us reach the month of Ramadan” and built a “consciousness of exceptional times” in the world of mind and heart of all Muslims.

Tonight is the first Friday night of this climate of blessings that we are in. It is a blessed night when it is hoped that the servants who turn their faces to the Almighty Allah (swt) with sincere and warm hearts shall be forgiven. It is a night of demand when the blessing and mercy of our Lord appear as a great desire in the hearts.

This night that we shall contemplate with the gifts and favor of our Lord is an important opportunity for our moral resurrection and ethical rise. Therefore, we shall review our responsibilities to our Lord, ourselves and all the created by deeming this night as the occasion of a comprehensive contemplation. We shall strive to purify our hearts from any dirt with tawbah and renovate ourselves by facing our ignorance, violence and faults.

However, our tawbah is not only for individual cleaning, but we have to make it an occasion for the social and global purification. As a matter of fact that today, the humanity is exhausted physically and spiritually due to the global disasters, calamities and crises that have been experienced especially in the last century.

The most fundamental duty that falls upon us in the face of such negativities is to be equipped with the values of iman, patience, dua and trust. To overcome all of these problems that have been experienced globally and also threatening our country, it is to materialize our individual responsibilities and act with a sense of solidarity by taking all kinds of measures that are required. It is to work with every ounce of power to build a more beautiful future.

Therefore we should consider these blessed days and nights that we contemplate as an opportunity and take shelter under the vast blessings and mercy of our Lord. We should make duas with love, affection, mercy and sincerity by avoiding hopelessness, despair, selfishness, arrogance and hatred that make the hearts infertile. We should strive to illuminate all over the earth with the light of science, knowledge and wisdom. We should deem these saintly days that are full of blessings as the witnesses of us strengthening the pact that we have made with our Lord.

With these feelings and thoughts I would like to congratulate the blessed months that embrace our souls and freshen our hearts of our dear nation and entire Islamic World.  And here I wish that the Almighty Allah (swt) lets these blessed months conduce to the unity and solidarity of all Muslims and peace and tranquility of the humanity.

Prof. Dr. Ali ERBAŞ
