Lailat-al-Ragaib which is the harbinger of the month of Ramadan and the first lailat of the blessed months was revived with duas all over the country. The programs which were organized following the Isra prayers in all of the mosques attracted intensive attention from the citizens.  In the programs, recites of Qur’an were performed, salavats were said and duas were made for our country and the Islamic World.

The President of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş attended the ‘Special Program of Lailat-al-Ragaib’ which was organized by the General Directorate of Religious Services in the Hagia Sophia-Kabîr-i-Shérif Mosque.

In the program which started following the Isra prayer which was established by the President of Religious Affairs Erbaş and where the measures of pandemic were observed, first of all, four muezzins recited sala in the four muezzin mahfils of the Hagia Sophia-Kabîr-i-Shérif Mosque.

Delivering a speech in the Lailat program that was organized for the first time after 86 years in the Hagia Sophia-Kabîr-i-Shérif Mosque, the President of Religious Affairs Erbaş said, "Here I greet you from the Hagia Sophia-Kabîr-i-Shérif Mosque which is the legacy of Mehmed the Conqueror and the pulpit of Akshamsaddin. The word of 'Ragaib' in the meaning of ‘bestowal’, ‘divine grant’ and ‘desired reward’ expresses the servant demanding from the Almighty Allah (swt) and turn their faces to Him. Lailat-al-Ragaib that we, as Muslims, revive with our sincere duas, actual tawbas and worships and when we find peace reminds us that we should direct all of our demands to our Lord.”

Expressing that the value of a person underlies what he desires, the President Erbaş talked as, “What we desire is what we direct to. What a person demands shows his value before the Almighty Allah (swt). What we want and desire also determine our direction. Our orientation as the believers should be to our Lord. Our desire should be to reach His approval and Paradise. Living the life that He wants shall revive our hereafter by building our worldly life. The reward of those whose demand is to be blessed is to be freed from the sins and to reach to the eternal bliss.”

“Let us deem our lives as valuable by contesting in benevolence”

Stating that we should consider the Lailat-al-Ragaib as if it is the last opportunity that is presented to us, the President Erbaş used expressions as, “By directing all of what we want and desire to our Lord and His approval, let us subject our lives, behaviors and direction to a comprehensive accounting. Let us question ourselves regarding where we are, where we stand, how we live and where we are headed to.”

Stating the fact that Islam has planned the life according to time so that the Muslims shall have a ‘consciousness of time’, the President Erbaş talked as, “He binds most of our worships with time. The worships such as the prayer, fasting, zakat and hajj etc. always reminds us the value and importance of time.  As a matter of fact that our Lord drew the attention to the fact that no moment with no objective can be in the life of a believer with the divine command of “Therefore, when thou art free (from thine immediate task), still labour hard”. In this regard, let us deem our lives as valuable by “contesting in benevolence” and “running in the way of goodness” in these days when we experience so many hardships.  It is goodness that makes the life and time valuable. Doing good deeds shall bring peace to both ourselves and the world. As a matter of fact that our Lord commands us as ‘Then strive together (as in a race) Towards all that is good’”.

“Let us be side by side with our brothers who are in difficult circumstances”

Reminding the fact that the man shall reach before his Lord at the end of the world of trial, the President Erbaş continued his words as follows:

“We should reach before Him with goodness and beauty. Contesting in goodness and benevolence is an indicator of taqwa. It is an expression of our consciousness of responsibility towards the Almighty Allah (swt). The consciousness of taqwa is the value that shall bring us to the approval and Paradise of the Almighty Allah (swt). It is the good deeds that we shall do by observing His approval. The Almighty Allah (swt) wants us to have a consciousness of taqwa. He gives us a responsibility to contest in benevolence and to run in the way of goodness. In this regard, in this season of blessings that we are in, let us be side by side with our brothers who are in difficult circumstances. Let us hold the hand of the orphans. Let us be the supporter of the helpless. Let us be brother to the victim and oppressed and a guide to the whole humanity in the way of goodness.”

Drawing the attention to the fact that the departure of a person from being a servant to the Almighty Allah (swt) means losing his objective and direction, the President Erbaş talked as, “Being a servant is to abandon all kinds of wrong feelings, thoughts, and behaviors towards our creator that we obey, bow down and turn toward to Him. Being a servant is to mention the Almighty Allah (swt) who created us and equipped us with all kinds of blessings and always to remember His power, greatness and mercy. Let us not forget that this is the attitude and behavior that shall bring the real peace to the person.”

“Hopelessness is out of the question for a believer who believes the Almighty Allah (swt) by heart”

Referring the troubles that the humanity has been experiencing, the President Erbaş evaluated as, “In these days when the humanity and the Islamic world face with the wars, epidemics, evil and disasters, the duty that falls upon us is to be equipped with patience, resist against the calamities and challenge against the difficulties. It is to persevere in the route by never giving up and falling into despair. It is to challenge with patience and determination by never giving up. Our Lord harbingers His servants who are equipped with patience, contest in being patient and who are in solidarity in difficult times in this world of trial with unlimited rewards in the eternal realm.”

Stating that due to the fact that the man are weak and hasty in nature, he can fall into pessimism and despair at times, the President Erbaş talked as “Hopelessness is out of the question for a believer who believes the Almighty Allah (swt) by heart. A believer trusts the Almighty Allah (swt) in every circumstances, depends on Him and strives to materialize his responsibilities in the best way. This situation is the only way that shall save the man from sorrow and loss both in this world and in the hereafter. Whatever we live and whichever difficulties we experience, our Lord harbingers us with ‘Verily, with every difficulty there is relief’”.

“Dua is to find ourselves a place before Allah (swt) who is the one with eternal grace”

Emphasizing that the blessed days and times are the best opportunities to demand the bestowals and grace of the Almighty Allah (swt), the President Erbaş used expressions as, “Tonight, let us raise our hands to the sky. Let us make our duas the occasion of our demands from the Almighty Allah (swt). Dua is to find ourselves a place before Allah (swt) who is the one with eternal grace. Dua is to know what and how a person shall demand before our Almighty Lord whose property does not decrease by giving. Dua is to give the gratitude of a servant who is aware of what has been given to him to the one who granted.”

Telling the importance of dua, the President Erbaş talked as, “Let us not forget that there is no dua unanswered. The Lord of the Universe commanded us to make duas by believing sincerely that it shall be answered and harbingered us that as long as the servant does not haste by saying “I made duas, but it is not answered”, his dua shall be answered. And these blessed days and nights are the most beautiful occasions of dua and gratitude for us. Let us direct our hands and hearts to the great forgiveness and mercy of our Lord by taking the advantage of this night and the blessed months.”

“Our Lord demands us a sincere, heartfelt and pure tawbah”

Underlining that a believer should be awake and sensitive in the face of sins and faults, the President Erbaş used expressions as, “In this season that is full of abundance, let us strive to purify our hearts and cleanse our souls by turning our faces to our Lord due to our mistakes, faults and sins. Let us embrace tawbah. Tawbah is a divine bestowal that re-establish our contact with our Lord and purify our hearts. Because of that our Lord invites us to tawbah. And he demands us a tawbah nasuh. That is a sincere, heartfelt and pure tawbah.”

The President Erbaş celebrated the Lailat-al-Ragaib of the Islamic World and finalized his words as follows:

“Here I wish our night would bring blessings to us, the Islamic world and the humanity. Here I request our Almighty Lord to make us secure from any misfortunes, troubles and epidemics. May our Lord treat all our ancestors and our glorious martyrs who gave their lives for the sake of our motherland and what we consider as sacred, especially our brothers and sisters who died due to the epidemic, for the mercy of tonight. May He honour them with his Paradise and face.”

At the end of the program, the Mufti of Istanbul Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Maşalı made duas.

The program was attended by the Governor of Istanbul Ali Yerlikaya and many citizens.
