Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Inshallah, we will revive one of the fruitful times within the sacred months that create a season of mercy altogether tonight. Gratitude and praise to the Almighty Allah (s.w.t.) Who has let us live this night one more time.

Bara'ah heralds salvation. It means to be granted forgiveness by the grace of Allah (s.w.t.) by abandoning mistakes and sins with the consciousness of servitude. It means to take refuge in the Almighty Allah (s.w.t.) from everything which makes mind and heart impure and distracts life from its meaning and purpose. It means to stay away from all desires and behaviors which do not comply with His consent. It means to live life with the awareness of the existence of the Almighty Allah (s.w.t.) Who knows, sees and hears everything, and with the consciousness of responsibility towards Him.

Being the sign of approaching the month of Ramadan, Lailat Al-Bara’ah reminds us of our responsibilities. It points out the glory of purification in an age when feelings such as selfishness, arrogance, envy, and miserliness surround life all around and when human values and moral virtues are tumbled. It invites humans to meet the truths that make them reach to nobility and freedom rather than slavery and to information, wisdom, and insight rather than ignorance.

Let us beautify our lives by doing deeds of righteousness which will glorify and rise us with the occasion of this night. Because the consciousness of deeds of righteousness is a powerful shield which protects us from all kinds of bad emotions and thoughts. In this respect, ‘’But to those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, He will give their (due) rewards, and more, out of His bounty,’’ (al-Nisa, 4/173) states the Almighty Allah (s.w.t.) in the Holy Qur’an and reminds us of the value and importance of good behaviors in the presence of Himself.

Let us make this night, the night of forgiveness and mercy of the Almighty Allah (s.w.t.), a night of salvation and resurrection in which we will be purified from our sins with our sincere repentance and raise our hopes with our prayers. Let us ask forgiveness and mercy from Allah (s.w.t.) with this dua which was taught us by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.), “O Allah! I resort to your forgiveness from your punishment and to your consent from your wrath...”

Under the guidance of the life-giving principles of our supreme religion Islam, let us exert effort to construct a more beautiful life and World with a surrounding approach which puts known, respect, and common sense to the center.

With these feelings and thoughts, I congratulate the Lailat al-Bara’ah of especially our dear nation and of all the Islamic world. Taking advantage of this blessed night, I wish that our nation will be free from all kinds of problems, troubles, calamities, and diseases; may the Almighty Allah (s.w.t.) let us be able to start the month of Ramadan free from our burdens of sin and to be among those who receive the certificate of salvation on the Day of Judgement.
