Zonguldak Uzun Mehmet Mosque was opened to worship following the first Friday prayer that was established today.

Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, established the first Friday prayer in the mosque whose opening ceremony was performed by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Republic of Turkey.

The order of standing side by side was organized in accordance with the measures which was taken due to the pandemic during the Friday prayer which was attended by many people from Zonguldak. Prior to the Friday prayer, the Qur’an Hafizs recited the Holy Qur’an.

Delivering a speech at the opening program that was organized following the Friday prayer, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Republic of Turkey, wished the opening of the mosque conduces to the good and thanked Hasan Gürsoy, who was contracted for the construction of the mosque, and his staff.

Delivering his gratitude to those who contributed to the construction of the mosque, Erdoğan talked, "Allah the Almighty (swt) commands in the Surah Tawbah as ‘The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and establish prayer and give zakah and do not fear except Allah'. I wish the adhans that shall be called, the prayers that shall be established and the duas that shall be made five times a day in Uzun Mehmet Mosque shall be accepted in the presence of Allah the Almighty (swt). I believe that every mosque, which we have brought to our cities, are spiritual guardians deployed in the motherland for the future of our country and nation.”

“It shall give pride to our nation for generations as the seal of our age”

Delivering the poem "The minarets are our bayonets; the domes are our helmets. Mosques are our barracks; the believers are soldiers. This holy army guards my religion." by the late Ziya Gökalp, Erdoğan continued his words as follows:

"We deemed these lands as our homeland by giving our blood for its sake, never making the adhans missing in our mosques of our independence that we established on this homeland and making our flag floating over the skies. Now, it is important and meaningful for this reason that we have opened Hagia Sophia, which is the legacy of the conquest, to worship once again. Our mosque that we have built in Istanbul Grand Çamlıca as a monument that greets the Bosporus from the Anatolian side shall give pride to our nation for generations as the seal of our age. The Millet Mosque (People's Mosque) that we have built within the Presidential Complex and the Melike Sultan Mosque that we have opened to worship in Ulus are monumental works that fulfill the same mission in Ankara. And our mosque whose opening ceremony we have performed last week in Taksim shall serve our city as the seal of our civilization in this historical region of Istanbul."

Stating that they opened Uzun Mehmet Mosque to service with the same feelings, Erdoğan, the President of Republic of Turkey, said, "This monument that is constructed on a land of approximately 12 thousand square meters and spreads to a land of 34 thousand square meters with its park and green areas has a capacity of 6 thousand people indoors and 7 thousand 500 people outdoors.”

Saying that Zonguldak, which was promoted to the status of a province in the republican period, took a distinguished place in the hearts of the nation as a city of labor and production, Erdoğan said, "On this occasion, I request once again the mercy of our great Lord, the Almighty Allah (swt) for each one of our glorious martyrs who willingly sacrificed their lives in the sake of their homeland for centuries.”

“Believers gather here”

Referring to the fact that "Mosque" is a place "to gather", Erdoğan continued his words as follows:

"Believers gather here, unite here, become brothers here and be together here. They cannot break this unity of ours. All terrorist organizations that have ever been used by the enemies of Turkey such as from FETO to PKK have always attacked first to our mosques, the religion and the belief of the nation. These unfortunate people, who attacked our religious institutions and Allah's verses whenever they had the opportunity, always continued this process. We see that some circles who follow the same path are trying to launch an operation on our country, again based on our mosques and the belief of our nation. Those who inundated many countries in our region with devastation, pain, blood and tears through the deviant trends that they invented, nurtured and fostered tried hard to play the same game over Turkey. Our nation, which keeps religion and state and property and nation in its prayers, did not allow any of these seditions, and threw all of them out of its body. That is why we must firmly protect our mosques, the call in the spirit of the adhan recited there, the direction that the Qur'an shows us, and the brotherhood expressed by our prayers."

Reminding the lines " These adhans and their testimonies are the foundations of my religion. And may their noble sound prevail thunderously across my eternal homeland" in our National Anthem, Independence March, Erdoğan talked as, "We should tightly embrace each other by wishing the best, the most blessed and the rightest for ourselves and all of the nation by disregarding all other measures apart from the consent of Allah the Almighty (swt) as what our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw) did. The same way that we made those who set their evil eyes on our independence regret, it is our most essential duty to let down those who attempted to our food, work, bread and peace in the same way.”

Gifting a Holy Qur’an to the mosque, Erdoğan, the President of Republic of Turkey, said, “We gift this Holy Qur’an from the 15th-16th centuries by Ahmet Karahisari and whose original piece is present in Topkapı Palace as a memento from the Presidency. It is, in fact, an exquisite and a unique copy of the Holy Qur’an. We gift this replica of it to this mosque in the memory of this opening ceremony, Insha Allah.”

President of Religious Affaris Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş Made Dua

After the speech of Erdoğan, the President of Republic of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, made dua.

President Erbaş made the following supplication in his dua:

“O Allah (swt)! Let our numerous young people, children and people worship and learn knowledge and wisdom and take education in this mosque. O Allah (swt)! Do not let adhans miss from its minarets. O Allah (swt)! Do not let voices of Qur’an miss from its domes. O Allah (swt)! Protect and spare our nation and homeland against any kinds of accidents and troubles. O Allah (swt)! Let our unity and solidarity prevail. O Allah (swt)! Do not give a chance to the treacherous who set their evil eyes on our nation, homeland, adhans and national flag. O Allah (swt)! Make them fall into their own traps.”

Following the dua of Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, the opening ribbon was cut.
