Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, attended the “International Congress on Ihtida” that was held in Konya by the High Board of Religious Affairs within the body of the Presidency of Religious Affairs.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the congress, Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, said that Islam is a religion of fitrah and that fitrah has a tendency to recognize its Creator, which is in the nature of humans.

Expressing that human being is essentially created pure and has a tendency to accept the pure, Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, said, “Prophet Muhammad (saw) states in a hadith, ‘The mother of every person gives him birth according to his true nature (fitrah). It is subsequently his parents who make him a Jew or a Christian or a Magian. Had his parents been Muslim he would have also remained a Muslim’ (Sahih Muslim, Destiny, 40). For this reason, we can say that the journey to Islam is the journey of a person to himself and his Lord.”

President Erbaş said, “Islam, in essence, is the common name of the belief system that was conveyed by all prophets,” Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, continued his words as follows:

“As you know, the Almighty Allah (swt) had chosen messengers to show and guide people the way of true path since the first creation of the human being and sent divine messages to their communities by the hands of these messengers. The Holy Qur’an, which was sent down to Prophet Muhammad (saw), is a universal book and the only divine command that is going to be valid until the Day of Judgment, since it is the last revelation and addressed the entire humanity.”

President Erbaş reminded that the first Muslims in the history of Islam put up a great struggle and said, “They carried the message of Islam from China to Southern Europe, from Central Asia to the Caucasus, from Anatolia to the interior of Africa; they invited people to the truth and the true path. We think that this is the real meaning and purpose of jihad.”

Pointing out the fact that the era in which we live has witnessed great changes and transformations, Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, said, “In today’s world where opportunities of communication and interaction are developing at a dizzying pace, each of us should exert maximum efforts to bring together the universal values of Islam with the entire humanity.”

“Today’s world has replaced justice, mercy and peace with chaos, turmoil and conflicts”

President Erbaş said, “Today, we live in a world that is dominated by a secular understanding that ignores religion, the Creator and the transcendent dimension. We witness that many rooted vital values are tried to be erased from the social memory by neglecting or ignoring them. We know that the belief and value judgments of Muslim societies have been seriously injured in this process in which religion and spirituality have been ignored and abused to the utmost level. We see that the values such as justice, mercy, trust, peace and sobriety, which are the basic concepts of Islam, have been replaced with chaos, turmoil and meaningless wars, conflicts and terrorism.”

“It is unfairness to associate the negative examples in Muslim geography with Islam”

Stating “To put it mildly, it is unfairness to associate the negative examples in Muslim geography with Islam and the Islamic history,” Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, expressed the following:

“Islam is not all about these. The Islamic history is also not about these. Because all these are contagious problems of only the last period of the great Islamic history. We know that two centuries is a very short period for a civilization Islamic civilization is so great and rooted that it cannot be limited to two centuries. This civilization has the Andalusian period of 700 years, the Transoxiana period of 1000 years. It also includes the Anatolian period. If one really wants to see the reality of Islam, he should examine these periods. He should examine the golden age of the Islamic civilization. If he wants to see, he should examine the perception of Islam and religion of Muslims in this period.”

Emphasizing that evaluating Islam through the Muslim geography today is one of the biggest mistakes that can be made, Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, said, “Of course, it cannot be said that the Muslims of that period were completely faultless. However, it is a great mistake in associating this situation with Islam and its values. It is literally unfortunate to turn away from the truth of Islam because of the mistakes of Muslims.”

“If there were no perception operations, the way of people’s search for truth would definitely lead to Islam”

Expressing that today Islam faces black propaganda to the extent of hatred and even Islamophobia, Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, said, “The disinformation and perception operations that are carried out especially through media cast a shadow on the search for the truth of people gravely. We believe that if there were no manipulations and obstacles, the way of people's search for truth would definitely lead to Islam. Because there is no other way to get rid of the depressions that are caused by the phenomena such as individuality, selfishness, hatred, violence and terrorism, which are the prominent problems of the modern age.”

President Erbaş added that the paths of those, who search for the truth all over the world, are crossed with Islam despite everything.

Addressing all Muslims in the world, Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, used the following expressions, “We should exert more effort to bring humanity together with the beauties of Islam. We need to work harder. We need to reach more people.”

“Meet Islam’s climate that gives peace, tranquility and life”

Saying “I would like to call out all groups that try to cast suspicion on Islam,” Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, continued as follows, “Believe me, you are never going to be able to reach this aim. It is not possible for you to deprive people of the truth of Islam forever. Whether you want it or not, Allah (swt) will perfect His light definitely. The truth cannot be hidden. Quit this pointless action and come and meet Islam’s climate that gives peace, tranquility and life. Have security, reliability and peace, too.”

“We should avoid causing people to have concerns and second thoughts in the way of searching for the truth”

Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, also called out the Muslims who behave in a way to harm the beauties of Islam and said:

“We should avoid causing people to have concerns and second thoughts in the way of searching for the truth, with our attitudes and behaviors. Because it is a great sin. We should behave in a way to honor human dignity because the Almighty Allah (swt) states in a verse so that we, “the average ummah”, can be witnesses over people, ‘And thus we have made you a just community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you.’

The Beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw) says, ‘A group of my ummah will continue to prevail on the basis of the Truth. and they will not be harmed by those who let down, deny or oppose them. This group will continue to be like this until the Day of Judgment.’ Alhamdulillah, it is promising that there are such sincere people and principled institutions today both in the Islamic geography and within the Muslims who live in the Western countries.”

“Our ancestors made many communities love Islam”

Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, said, “Having the honor of being Muslim for more than thousand years, our ancestors had always regarded religion as the essential part of their identity,” and continued, ”Our ancestors, who stayed away from an oppressive discourse based on the principle that there is no compulsion in religion, devotedly carried the science, wisdom and knowledge of Islam to many societies, especially the Balkans. They made many communities of those regions love Islam.”

Stating that although the Presidency of Religious Affairs is a constitutional institution, it always aims to undertake its services with a civil approach and embracive expressions, Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, used these words, “The Presidency of Religious Affairs has ceaselessly continued its services since the foundation of the Presidency for our cognates and co-religionists who live in our country and since 1971 for our cognates and co-religionists who live in different countries, in order to bring the authentic information to our people.

Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Haçkalı, the Chairperson of the High Board of Religious Affairs within the body of the Presidency of Religious Affairs; Prof. Dr. Selim Argun, the Vice President of Religious Affairs; Prof. Dr. İbrahim Hilmi Karslı, the Vice President of Religious Affairs; Assoc.
